This medal was bestowed on servicemen, civilian employees of the Armed Forces, partisans, underground fighters and civilians who contributed to the war effort in the Great Patriotic War against Nazi Germany and in the war against militarist Japan on the occassion of the 50th anniversary of the victory.

This decoration was established in April 1995.
