The Nebraska National Guard Service Medal may be awarded to members of the Nebraska National Guard over specific periods of time in recognition of honorable and faithful service. Effective 1 September 1987, this service must be continuous active Nebraska National Guard service to qualify for award of the service medal. Time spent in the Inactive National Guard (ING) is not considered creditable service. Personnel who have been awarded the service medal for periods of service prior to 1 September 1987 will remain authorized to wear the award received.
