This medal marking the 20th anniversary of the Worker' and Peasants' Red Army was awarded to regular command personnel of the Army and Navy, servicemen who served more than 20 years, Civil War veterans and also those awarded the Order of the Red Banner for distinguished service in the Civil War.

This decoration was established in January 1938.
